Under the EU Data Strategy, the European Commission is creating a European Digital Health Space. The aim is to give individuals better digital access to and control over their personal electronic health data and to create a trustworthy and efficient environment for research. In Germany, the Digital Act and the Health Data Utilization Act are necessary steps towards the European Digital Health Space. Digitalization in the German healthcare system is finally gaining momentum, resulting in electronic patient files (ePA), e-prescriptions, telemedicine, and health apps.
